New Years Eve Dinner

I decided that i didn't want to go out for new years this year, so instead of rushing about i spent the evening at home with my cat watching film noir and drinking a lovely Amarone! Of course i needed to have something to eat, and i was contemplating just eating cheese and bread that i bought at the Junction Fromagarie - but thought maybe i could make something a little different.

Pretty simple ingredients

I sauteed the mushrooms in butter and garlic, adding lemon juice and red wine vinegar to create a little sauce. I then toasted a couple of slices of the baguette and poached an egg. I put the warm mushrooms and sauce over the toasted baguette, then topped it with the poached egg. On the side i had a few slices of cheese, some more bread and olives.

Not a bad way to start 2011

Fancy Pants Grilled Cheese

I have been finishing off this blue cheese for a few days now. I also had a little of the st. John's bread, along with some olives - blue cheese and spicy olive grilled cheese? Yes please!

Cheese Dinner

In celebration of my finishing my final stats exam i spent the day wandering the city. We must have walked 7 km, but got to see a bunch of different neighbourhoods, plus we picked up things as we wandered. Bread from St. John's bakery - where we got the very last stuff (other than the olive bread). We went to the epicure shop on Parliament and got crackers, some sliced meats and these amazing spiced black olives.

It knew it was a special occasion so i also broke out a bottle of wine i had been saving that i purchased when we went to the Foreign Affairs/Treadwell wine/food tasting.

The cheeses came from a new spot in the Junction really close to me called Junction Fromagerie. I love cheese, and really enjoy supporting stores in my neighbourhood. We got a great blue cheese, a brie and a old cheddar that i found a little bland.

I also had some Branksome pickle and sundried tomato pesto, cheddar crackers and spinach dip.

Pizza on the BBQ

Ever since i made breakfast on the bbq i've had an urge to make absolutely everything on the bbq. The fact that i don't actually have my own bbq has hampered this operation, but at the cottage i can bbq everything - and it keeps the cottage cooler, so i was able to embrace my urges. This time i decided to bbq pizza!

I've never bothered to make pizza crust, and the cottage isn't exactly the place to try something like that so i simply bought a PC whole wheat crust. I would really recommend this product for any flatbread you want to make- it was nice and thin and cooked up wonderfully. AND surprisingly they had bbq instructions on the back.

We did some simple toppings - whole tomatoes, chopped garlic, red onions, black olives, jalapenos, some tomato sauce (or pizza sauce as the label so appealingly called it) olive oil and goat cheese.

Don't be fooled by the baking sheet - it was just for transportation purposes. I brought it out to the bbq on it.

BBQ pizza!
